Looks who’s back on our screens again!
No not Simon Cowell – but Dermot O’Leary! The smug one (Cowell) may be returning for yet another series of The X-Factor but it almost seems as though we’re going back in time with the return of the highly popular presenter.
The judging panel may have a very familiar yet nostalgic ring to it this year. Back are Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger alongside head honcho Simon Cowell, who’s constant tinkering with the presenters and judging panel last year came back to bite him where it hurts. Ratings were seriously flagging and the future of the show was looking rather shaky. So in an effort to win back the audiences that have turned off to switch over the Strictly Come Dancing on the BBC, Cowell had to eat some very large portions of humble pie and admit his mistake the long serving present O’Leary – who took it with his usual grace and pragmatism. Shame Cowell couldn’t take a leaf out of his book!
The X Factor returns to our screens on ITV from Saturday, August 27th 2016 for it’s 12th season. Let’s hope it’s not bad luck hey!
Gary Lineker kept his promise… sort of!
With his beloved Leicester winning the Premier League last season, Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker had the unenviable task of presenting the opening show of this new football season in his underwear. So as the opening credits had ended, poor Gary who had clearly hit the gym, was stood in front of a pair of very amused pundits in the shape of Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, reading his opening lines in a pair of Leicester emblazoned boxer shorts.
Many of us thought he’d be donning the classic Y-fronts and felt a bit short changed, especially when after the first match highlights had completed that he was suddenly fully clothed again. But in fairness to the ex-Leicester, Everton, Barcelona and Spurs striker, he kept his word and was made to be humiliated in front of the football world, even if only for a few amusing moments.
And with that, it’s great to have the new football season back and Match of the Day every Saturday evening on BBC One. The new season has already started so make sure you tune in each week to see thehighlight sof what could be a very competitive season.
With Guardiola, Mourinho, Conte, Ranieri and many others fancying their chances, it could be another cracking season.
Mary and Paul are back too!
It wouldn’t be a proper new season of television without The Great British Bake Off returning to BBC One. Presenters Mel and Sue will be joining them alongside 12 new contestants who vary from a retired headteacher to an aerospace engineer.
Events begin with Cake Week as they start with Paul’s favourite cake, while Mary omits timings for a fiendish technical challenge. After a super-tough showstopper, who will be the first star baker and who will be the first to leave the competition? It’s going to get very hot in those kitchens!
